Bushmills 12 Year Old Marsala Finish

ushmills 12 Year Old is a three wood matured single malt that uses wine cask finishing to reshape the classic Bushmills profile rather than overpower it. It is triple distilled from 100% malted barley, keeping the spirit clean and fruit forward, but the cask build adds extra weight and sweetness compared to the younger core range releases.

Matured for a minimum of 11 years in a combination of ex bourbon casks and ex sherry casks, the whiskey is then combined and finished for 6 to 9 months in Marsala wine casks. Marsala is a fortified wine style, and in cask finishing it tends to contribute caramelised sweetness and dried fruit depth with a rounder mouthfeel, sitting somewhere between bourbon driven vanilla and sherry driven dried fruit. The result is a whiskey that reads richer and warmer without becoming heavy or overly wine like.

On the nose and palate, you can expect soft sweetness and fruit first, followed by a more dessert toned layer coming from the Marsala influence. Reviews commonly describe ripe fruit sweetness and a honeyed character, with darker notes like chocolate appearing in the finish. It’s a good fit if you like Bushmills’ clean style but want more depth through the mid palate and a rounder, more lingering finish than the 10 Year Old.
