Brugal is one of the Dominican Republic's three B's and stands out for testing effectively dry, where many Spanish-style rons are sweetened. This Leyenda expression takes that cleaner Brugal base, a column-still molasses rum with the island's amber, vanilla and caramelised-nut character, and gives it a finishing period in Cognac casks. That French brandy wood should add a layer of dried fruit, soft oak and a faint grapey richness over the rounded Dominican core. Bottled at a gentle 38%, it reads as an easy, approachable pour. Brugal's drier house profile means this should feel more balanced and less sugary than the dessert end of the style, with the Cognac finish adding elegance rather than heavy sweetness.
