A Dominican from Brugal finished in cacao influenced casks, soft at 45% with a chocolate and orange twist over vanilla and caramel, pleasant and smooth though light on depth and length.
Description
Brugal Coleccion Visionaria 2023 comes from one of the Dominican Republic's three B's, a house whose core ron tends to test genuinely dry. This release leans on cacao influenced casks for a distinctive chocolate and orange signature, built on molasses spirit distilled on a column still and bottled at a firmer 45%.
The cask choice drives the character. The nose is sweet with caramel, vanilla and orange, the palate brings caramel, soft wood and spice, and the finish turns to orange, nut, dark chocolate and a slightly alcoholic edge. The chocolate orange theme gives it a flavoured feel even though the appeal is gentle and easy. Sugar status is not declared for this bottling, and it drinks smooth and pleasant rather than deep or long. A comfortable, dessert leaning Dominican best enjoyed neat or as a base for richer cocktails by drinkers who like that cacao twist.
