A Dominican fourteen year old finished in sherry casks, with caramel, brown sugar and vanilla turning drier and oakier on the palate with smoke and spice, soft at 40%, a lightly sweetened sipper best enjoyed gently warmed.

Description
Brugal 1888 Doblemente Anejado is a Dominican rum in the Spanish style, column distilled from molasses, aged fourteen years and given a second maturation in sherry casks before bottling at 40%. Brugal is one of the Dominican Republic's three founding houses, and while many in its category lean sweet, this expression aims for a somewhat drier, more oak driven balance.
The sherry finish shapes the character. The nose is sweet with caramel, brown sugar and vanilla, but the palate turns woodier and drier than the aroma suggests, with spice, warmth and a smoky, sherried edge running into a vanilla and oak finish. It is lightly sweetened rather than a heavy sugar bomb, and some find it best slightly warmed, which opens up the wood and spice. A smooth, gently sweet Dominican sipper, equally at home neat or in a simple mixed drink.
