Description
Bottega is a family distillery in the Veneto, where vines were first tended near Refrontolo in 1635 and Aldo Bottega founded the modern distillery at Bibano in 1977. Bocca di Rosa is a rosolio, the old Italian style of sweet floral liqueur whose name nods to the Latin ros solis, sundew, and the rose petals at its heart. The petals give it an intense floral character, and it is bottled at 30% with an ageing potential of around five years.
The nose is pure rose petal, the palate sweet, silky and intensely floral with elderflower, honey and a whisper of violet behind it. Behind the bar its job is aromatic lift and gentle sweetness, a floral top note that perfumes a glass without much weight. Served at 7 to 8 degrees it makes an elegant after dinner pour, and it dresses a spritz, a sparkling wine cocktail or a long drink, or sits alongside fresh fruit and almond biscuits. A floral modifier for buyers who want something beyond the usual fruit syrups.
