Description
Bols Advocaat comes from Lucas Bols, the Amsterdam house distilling and blending liqueurs since 1575, made to a classic recipe in which fresh egg combines with fine vanilla and a mild brandy sweetness. Bottled at 15% in 70cl, it is an egg liqueur, the yolk blended with spirit, sugar and vanilla and rested to a thick, custardy viscosity. It is a dairy and egg emulsion, served chilled and finite once opened, not an aged spirit.
The nose is fresh vanilla mixed with the rich sweetness of egg, the palate creamy and full-bodied with a mild egg and vanilla note over a slight brandy sweetness, the finish smooth and long with a warm, custardy close. Its job in a glass is rich, creamy body and sweetness, which makes it the base of a Snowball, lengthened with lemonade, and of eggnog, while a spoonful enriches desserts. Serve it well chilled or over ice, and once opened keep it refrigerated and use it within a few months.
