Description
Blended Grain #1 Batch 3 10th Birthday (TBWC) is a blended grain Scotch from That Boutique-y Whisky Company. It vats aged grain whiskies, with rare Carsebridge in the mix. By 1980 it was the largest grain distillery in Scotland, with three Coffey stills and a dark grains plant.
Carsebridge, a Lowland grain distillery closed in 1983, lends a sweet, oily depth. A bourbon hogshead held it, the long maturation drawing out a buttery coconut. Grain whisky like this rewards very long maturation, the wood giving most of the character. It switched from malt to grain in 1852, installing two of the new Coffey continuous stills. Most of its make went into blends; single grain Carsebridge appears only from independent bottlers. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the sweet, oily core over the decades. Maturation in American oak suits the light, sweet grain particularly well.
Bottled at 44.2%, it is rounded. Coconut, vanilla, toffee and a soft oil run through it, with a creamy oak depth. Soft toffee and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. The finish runs soft, sweet and warm. A characterful blended grain Scotch drawing on grain from a vanished distillery.
