Description
Asaka Yamazakura New Born Cask #5008 is a single-cask, cask-strength release from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture, distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2017. Where most New Born siblings rested in Ex-Bourbon barrels, this cask was filled into American Oak, offering a slightly different perspective on wood interaction at the earliest stage of the distillery's life.
At only a year of age and 62.9% ABV, the new-make spirit dominates: fresh, clean and fruit-forward in the Asaka house style, with the American Oak beginning to contribute vanilla and light caramel at the edges. The release was sold in the domestic Japanese market and forms part of the distillery's transparent record of its earliest production runs in 2016.
