Description
Asaka Yamazakura New Born Cask #17101 is a single-cask, cask-strength release from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture. Distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2017 as part of a New Born series that documented the distillery's earliest spirit before it reached whisky age, it offers a transparent look at Asaka's new-make character at 61.2% ABV.
The Ex-Bourbon cask contributes light vanilla and cereal softness rather than deep wood influence at this stage. Asaka's new make is typically clean and fruit-forward, so the profile leans towards fresh grain and orchard character with a lively spirit-driven heat. This is a collector and historian's bottling as much as a drinking one, released for the domestic Japanese market.
