Description
Armand de Brignac is a Champagne house whose cuvees are assembled and bottled at Cattier in the Montagne de Reims. This rosé is built from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, with the pink colour drawn from red-skinned Pinot. The second fermentation takes place in bottle under the Champagne method, and extended time on the lees adds the toasted, doughy autolytic character that sits beneath the fruit. The wine is finished at Brut, a dry dosage that keeps the red fruit clean rather than sweet.
The colour is a bright salmon pink with a persistent, fine bead. The nose leads on strawberry and raspberry, with red currant and a hint of white peach behind. On the palate the mousse is creamy and the red fruit carries through to a dry, biscuity finish with a touch of toasted bread. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass or a wide flute, as an aperitif or alongside roast poultry, duck and richer shellfish.
