A 2008 Panamanian from Plantation finished in white Pineau des Charentes casks, woody and chocolatey with caramel and spice up top, coffee and cocoa on the palate, spice and caramel on the close at 46.5%.
Description
Plantation, Maison Ferrand's widely poured rum range, presents this single cask Panamanian sourced from Alcoholes Del Istmo, a 2008 vintage finished in white Pineau des Charentes casks and bottled at 46.5%. Ferrand is known for double ageing in French casks, and although the house openly uses dosage across much of its core line, this single-cask release leans on the wine-cask finish for its character.
The nose is woody and spicy, chocolate and caramel over a youthful oak edge. The palate is firm and spiced, wood and chocolate joined by coffee, the Pineau lending a soft fruity-sweet undercurrent. The finish settles on allspice and caramel. This is a cask-forward Panamanian where the wine finish and the oak do much of the work, richer and spicier than the brand's softer flagship bottlings. A pour for drinkers who enjoy a wood-and-spice profile with a gentle sweet lift from the French cask, rather than a light, neutral sipper.
