An 11 Year Old Barbados and Mauritius blend under the Equiano label, drier and oak driven with dark chocolate, coconut, banana and firm tannins from pot and column stills at a bolder 52%.
Description
Equiano Ominira 2010 is an Afro-Caribbean blend built around Foursquare in Barbados and Mauritian rum, bottled at 52% from a mix of pot and column distillation and aged eleven years in ex-bourbon. It is the bolder, drier counterpart to the standard Equiano, unsweetened and pitched a step up in strength and depth.
The Foursquare side brings banana, coconut and caramel, while Mauritius adds grilled grapefruit, faint smoke, mint and roasted nuts, the halves dovetailing into a single rich whole. Aromas of dark chocolate, honey and oak lead into a palate of coconut, dark chocolate, caramelised fruit and firm tannic oak, with a dark, smoky barrel driven finish. The combination of pot still weight and dry maturation gives it real grip and power. For drinkers who want a wood forward blend leaning on Foursquare with extra muscle, it delivers balance and depth in equal measure.
