Description
El Paseo del Ron is a young Dominican dark rum bottled by AB No. 1 Brands, a molasses-based spirit in the soft, sweet Spanish style. It is openly sweetened, so it belongs squarely in the rounded, dessert-leaning camp rather than among the dry sipping rons, and there is no pretence otherwise.
The profile is warm and easy. The aroma is fruity with apricot and dates, and the palate broadens into orange zest, fig, plenty of vanilla and a little spice, with caramel and nougat lending a sweet, exotic richness. At 40% and with sugar added, it drinks smooth and gentle, closer to a liqueur-like sipper than a spirit-forward rum. Taken on those terms it is a pleasant, indulgent pour for anyone after a soft, sweetened dark rum to round off a meal.
