A soft, lightly sweet cane juice rum from Guadeloupe’s Papa Rouyo, all vanilla, caramel and toasted nuts over gentle vegetal notes, an easy, uncomplicated agricole style sipper from the 2019 harvest at a relaxed 45%.
Description
Papa Rouyo is a young Guadeloupe producer working with fresh pressed sugar cane juice, and this Sanblaj ESB from the 2019 harvest is its gentle, approachable face. Guadeloupe sits under the looser IGP rather than Martinique's strict AOC, and at 45% this is a relaxed, beginner friendly stepping stone into agricole style rum rather than a demanding one.
Distilled on a column from fresh cane juice and given a little time in oak, it leans soft and rounded. The nose is all caramel, pastry, vanilla and barrel, the palate stays light and lightly sweet with vanilla and a toasted edge, and the finish carries dried fruit, vanilla and caramel. It is an easy daily sipper that trades intensity for comfort, and a friendly first cane juice bottle for anyone stepping across from sweeter molasses rum.
