Bottled by the Italian house Velier, the most prestigious name in collectible rum, this Blanc Maturé 450 jours is a 2022 Guadeloupe agricole from Papa Rouyo, a young distillery working a double-retort pot still. Pressed from fresh sugarcane juice and released at 64% and unsweetened, it is a high-proof white given an unusually long rest.

Distilled on the double-retort pot still, the classic heavy aromatic configuration, then matured for 450 days, it gains a smoothness rare in a blanc of this strength. The nose carries fresh sugarcane, floral and confection notes with lime, the palate is herbal and smooth with a cane core and a present but well-handled alcohol, and the finish brings sugarcane, citrus, herbal notes and bergamot with a dry, slightly salty edge. The long rest shifts it toward vegetal and sour-citrus territory and softens the proof. Characterful and clean, it shines neat for the brave and in a Daiquiri.
