This Glen Moray was bottled by an undisclosed bottler, a 14 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 5789, bottled at 51.1%, one of 100 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.

Run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.

At a hearty 51.1% it carries real weight. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
