Description
A 9 year old Glen Moray from the bottler TnT-Casks, distilled in 2012, from cask TNT 6422, bottled at 52.5%, one of 92 bottles. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, light and fruity. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
At cask strength 52.5% it is full bodied. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
