Description
From the bottler Brave New Spirits, a 14 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2007, from cask 6244, bottled at 57.2%, one of 141 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes.
At a hearty 57.2% it carries real weight. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
