The bottler Best Dram bottled this Glen Moray, a 17 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 5308, bottled at 56.2%, one of 154 bottles. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.

Distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a honeyed depth. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear.

At a hearty 56.2% it carries real weight. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
