A Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, at 40%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.

It was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. Carrying no age, soft vanillin (vanilla) and a green apple suggest a fair spell in cask. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.

Reduced to 40%, it is mellow. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
