Description
An official release of Glen Moray, at 52.3%, 1000 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. An Oloroso cask shaped the finish, over the fruity Glen Moray spirit. No age is given, but vanillin vanilla and a bright apple are well integrated. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make.
At a natural 52.3% it is full and fruity. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
