Description
A 21 year old Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, at 46.8%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
Worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Finished in a Madeira cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice.
Bottled at 46.8%, it is rounded. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a nutty, raisined sweetness from the cask. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
