Description
This official Glen Moray, an 11 year old, from 2005, cask 5419, at 61.4%, 200 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
The spirit was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Maturation finished in a Burgundy cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise.
At a natural 61.4% it is full and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with a soft red berry and an earthy edge from the cask. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
