Description
A Glen Moray of a 15 year old chosen by the bottler Whisky.de, bottled at 46%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood layered over the light malt. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
At 46% it is light and soft. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
