Description
One for the Road is a 22 year old Isle of Jura matured in Pinot Noir wood and bottled at a cask strength 47%, an outturn of 5,000 bottles. The name nods to George Orwell, who called Jura an extremely ungettable place. Jura makes its malt at the island's sole distillery, rebuilt in 1963 to a deliberately light, Highland style.
Rebuilt in 1963 for a light, clean spirit, the distillery rewards long maturation in active wood. Matured in Pinot Noir casks over twenty-two years, the wine wood adds a soft berry depth to the malt.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 47%. The Pinot Noir gives a soft red fruit and a drying edge over the honeyed, aged malt. The recorded notes run to seasoned oak, dried fruit, leather, a nutty note, chocolate and citrus. A deep, wine-matured island twenty-two.
