Description
The Heavy Peated Edition was distilled in 1999 and bottled at seven years old, a rare heavily smoky expression from a distillery built to make a light, unpeated malt. Matured in Oloroso sherry at a cask strength 58%, it was an outturn of 4,000 bottles. Jura's single distillery, rebuilt in 1963, was designed to make a softer malt than its Islay neighbours.
Jura ran occasional peated batches from the late 1990s, and this pushes the smoke much further than usual. Matured in Oloroso casks, the sherry meets a heavy peat.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 58%. The Oloroso gives dried fruit while guaiacol and phenols drive a strong smoke. The recorded notes run to chocolate, citrus, a coal-gas mineral edge, a fragrant lift, dried hay and a kippered smoked note. A rare, heavily peated young Jura.
