Description
This is where the Limited Release series turns more overtly smoky. Instead of aiming for coastal peat territory, the smoke character comes from Laureate barley smoked with native mānuka wood, which tends to read as warmer and more aromatic, closer to smouldering hardwood and toasted spice than iodine or sea air.
The cask choice keeps that smoke on a tight frame. Virgin French oak brings structure quickly, especially at a relatively young age, because fresh oak has a higher concentration of extractable compounds. French oak in particular is known for firmer tannin grip and drier spice, so alongside the smoke you get a more defined mid palate and a finish with real shape rather than sweetness alone.
At 46% ABV, non chill filtered and natural in colour, it retains mouthfeel and carries heavier flavour compounds cleanly. Expect the profile to land on smoky embers first, then develop into coffee roast, cocoa and bitter chocolate, with oak spice tightening it up into the finish. The outturn is 4,366 bottles, so it’s a fixed batch rather than a rolling ongoing bottling.
