Description
Yoichi 10 Years Old is a single malt from Nikka's Yoichi distillery, one of the most distinctively maritime whisky sites in Japan, located on Hokkaido's Sea of Japan coast. The distillery was established by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934 on ground that reminded him of the Scottish west coast, and its commitment to coal-fired direct distillation has been maintained to this day as the foundation of the Yoichi identity.
A decade in Ex-Bourbon casks develops the spirit toward dried fruit, nutty and leathery notes alongside the hallmark tobacco and peat smokiness that the coal-fired stills produce in the new make. An oily, full-bodied texture runs throughout, the product of both the direct-fired method and Hokkaido's cold, humid maturation environment. Bottled at 45%, this expresses the core Yoichi 10 character in its standard global format.
