Description
This is Taylor's Select Reserve Port, a reserve ruby-style fortified wine from Taylor Fladgate, one of the long-established Port houses of Vila Nova de Gaia.
It is blended from red wines grown in the Baixo Corgo and Cima Corgo of the upper Douro, chosen for depth of colour and firm, concentrated fruit. Fortification with grape spirit halts fermentation and keeps the wine sweet, after which it matures for around three years in large oak vats. That reductive vat ageing lets the wine soften and knit together while hOlding its deep ruby colour and fresh black-fruit character, placing it a step above a basic ruby.
Expect a deep ruby colour with a garnet rim, an intense nose of black fruit, and a firm, full-bodied palate of blackberry, plum and fig edged with oak, spice and dry tobacco through a long finish. It works well with dark chocolate, mature and blue cheeses, or charcuterie.
