Description
Taylor's 10 Year Old Tawny is a wood-aged Port from Taylor Fladgate, a house established in 1692 and still among the leading names of Portugal's Douro Valley. The blend draws on red Ports from the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, fortified during fermentation with grape spirit and then set aside to mature slowly in cask.
The wine spends around ten years in seasoned oak pipes of roughly 630 litres, held in the cool river-mouth lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia. That long oxidative ageing shifts the colour from deep red toward tawny amber and trades primary fruit for the mellow, layered flavours the style is known for. It is bottled ready to drink and needs no further cellaring.
Expect ripe berry fruit and dried fig over walnut, butterscotch and a whisper of chocolate, with candied orange peel and gentle spice on a long finish. Serve lightly chilled as a digestif, alongside a cheese board, or with nut-based desserts and dark chocolate.
