Description
Shortcross is the whiskey of Rademon Estate Distillery in Co. Down, the Boyd Carr family's estate operation and one of the more experimental of the northern wave. Rye & Malt does what the label says, a mash of rye and malted barley distilled together, a rarity in Ireland, and this is the second release of the recipe.
Maturation pairs ex-Bourbon barrels with virgin Chinkapin oak, an American white oak species that gives a spicier, more aromatic toast than standard casks. Rye pepper and citrus zest ride over honey, fresh fruit and malt, with chocolate and dried fruit behind. Bottled at 46%, it shows an estate that treats its stills as a workshop rather than a production line.
