Description
Berry Bros & Rudd opened its Collective #1: The Pioneers series with this Shortcross, a single pot still whiskey distilled at Rademon Estate in Co. Down in 2017 and bottled at six years old in 2023. Single cask 48, an ex-Bourbon barrel, yielded 264 bottles at its natural cask strength of 55.1%.
The pot still mash of malted and unmalted barley shows in the glass as the style should, cooked mash and cereal depth, green apple, ginger and black pepper on an oily palate, with the Bourbon barrel adding vanilla and light coconut rather than crowding the spirit. A young northern distillery captured undiluted, and an early marker for collectors of the Shortcross name.
