This 20 Years Old Tawny is the mid-tier of Sandeman's aged range, from the Douro house founded in London in 1790. It is blended to an average age of twenty years from reserves of red Douro Port, fortified mid-fermentation and then matured for the long term in seasoned oak casks in the Vila Nova de Gaia lodges.

Twenty years of oxidative ageing carry the wine well beyond the 10-year style. Slow evaporation through the wood concentrates the flavours, the colour deepens to amber, and a fine seam of acidity keeps the sweetness in balance rather than letting it turn heavy. It is a more layered and savoury expression, bottled ready to drink.

Look for dried apricot, honey and nuts lifted by spice and vanilla, unfolding smoothly across a long, complex palate. Serve in a small measure after dinner, with coffee and dark chocolate, beside blue cheese, or with a cigar. It is presented in a gift box.
