A fourteen-year Port Mourant from RomDeluxe, Port-finished at 57.7%, with the marque’s pencil shavings, liquorice and dark fruit, an oily, leathery palate and a long anise-and-prune finish, dry rather than sweet.
Description
RomDeluxe's Limited Batch Series gathers characterful Guyanese casks, and this 2010 is a fourteen-year Port Mourant from Demerara Distillers, the double wooden pot still that defines old navy Demerara. Finished in Port and bottled at 57.7%, it carries the classic PM signature at full strength.
The nose is fresh and woody with mint, plum, a faint medicinal note and spice, the palate turns oily with anise, leather and wood, and the finish stays woody and leathery with more anise and prunes. Pencil shavings, liquorice and heather run through it in textbook Port Mourant fashion, the Port cask adding dark fruit depth without obvious sweetness, as this is an unsweetened style. It reads as a dependable, value-driven PM rather than a standout, a dry, savoury old-Demerara sipper for drinkers who already know and like the marque's distinctive character.
