Description
Ramos Pinto Quinta da Ervamoira Tawny 10 Years Old is an aged Tawny drawn from a single estate, Quinta de Ervamoira in the remote Douro Superior, where the house grows Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. It carries a 10-year age indication, the average age of the wines in the blend.
After fortification the wine matures oxidatively in seasoned casks, blending harvests across roughly ten different years. Slow contact with air and wood fades the red colour toward orange-amber and swaps fresh berry fruit for dried and stone-fruit character, structure and a nutty depth that reductive Ruby ageing never produces.
The aroma is generous, with orange, apricot, plum, fig and date over vanilla, toasted almond and a whisper of cinnamon. The palate is smooth and full, fresh fruit wrapped in wood ageing, closing on a lightly woody, faintly acidic note. Serve it slightly cool as a digestif, with coffee, or alongside dried fruit and nuts and hard cheese.
