Description
Ramos Pinto Fine Porto Ruby comes from a Douro house founded in 1880 and part of the Louis Roederer family since 1990, known for working mainly from its own estates. Built on Touriga Nacional alongside the classic Douro red varieties, this is the house's entry Ruby.
The wine is fortified mid-fermentation with grape spirit to preserve sweetness, then aged only briefly in wood so it hOlds its youthful colour and fruit. This short, reductive maturation is what separates a Ruby from the oxidatively aged Tawnies, keeping the fresh berry character to the fore rather than developing nut and caramel notes.
The colour is dense and red, with aromas of cherry, blackberry, plum and raspberry threaded with cinnamon. The palate is voluminous and fruity with a persistent, aromatic finish. It suits a straightforward after-dinner pour, works with dark chocolate and berry desserts, and stands up well to a plate of cheese.
