Description
This is a Fine Tawny Port from Ramos Pinto, the house founded in the Douro in 1880 by the brothers Adriano and Antonio and today owned by Champagne Louis Roederer. The blend rests on the traditional Douro red grapes fortified during fermentation, then matured in wood at the house's Gaia lodges.
As a young, wood-aged Tawny it spends its ageing in cask rather than tank, which gently oxidises the wine and smooths its texture. That maturation lightens the colour toward a tawny red with a topaz rim and turns the primary fruit into a softer, warmer profile without the deep concentration of the aged-with-indication Tawnies.
The nose is fresh and lifted, opening onto ripe red fruit, raisin and a mellow wood note, while the palate is light, warm and very soft with a balanced, gently sweet finish. An easy-drinking style, it is best served slightly cool as an after-dinner glass or with milk chocolate, dried fruit and nuts, or a simple almond biscuit.
