Description
The Adriano White Reserve comes from Ramos Pinto, a Douro house founded in 1880 and long known for its estate-focused approach. It is built from the region's white varieties, chiefly Codega do Larinho, Malvasia Fina, Viosinho and Rabigato, hand-picked and vinified in the traditional manner with light skin maceration.
As with all Port, fermentation is stopped by the addition of grape spirit, retaining sweetness and lifting strength. What sets this bottling apart is the ageing: the wine spends around seven years in oak barrels in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, an oxidative maturation that shifts the colour from pale gold toward amber and layers nut, spice and dried-fruit complexity over the fresh fruit of youth.
The nose is intense and layered, blending tropical fruit and crystallised orange with balsamic and spice notes. The palate is full-bodied yet balanced, with a long, warm finish. Serve lightly chilled as an aperitif, or pour it over ice with tonic and a twist of orange; it also sits well with salted almonds, hard cheese or a fruit tart.
