Description
This is the Adriano Reserva from Ramos Pinto, a reserve Tawny Port named after Adriano Ramos Pinto, who founded the Douro house in 1880. The name carries history: the wine became so popular in Brazil that Port there was simply known as Adriano. It is now made under the ownership of Champagne Louis Roederer.
The blend uses Douro red grapes including Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cao and Touriga Franca, aged for around six years in the traditional 550-litre Portuguese casks known as pipas. That measured cask ageing sits between a young Ruby and an aged Tawny, keeping a core of fresh fruit while the oak begins to add nut, dried fruit and a balsamic edge.
The colour is a semi-developed tawny with an orange meniscus, and the nose blends fresh cherry and blackberry with plum, walnut and ethereal oak notes. The palate is dense and rounded with a balanced sweetness. Serve slightly cool as a digestif, or pair it with dark chocolate, walnuts and dried fruit, or a mature hard cheese.
