Description
Powers Three Swallow Release brought the brand's pot still heritage back to the shelf, a single pot still whiskey made at Midleton in Co. Cork by Irish Distillers. This is an earlier bottling from around 2015 at 40% for the home market, named for the three swallows that have long featured on Powers labels, and pitched as the approachable first step into the range.
Triple distilled from malted and unmalted barley, it draws on ex-bourbon barrels for honey, vanilla and green apple, with Oloroso sherry casks adding a seam of dried fruit and nuttiness. The single pot still spirit gives the whiskey its signature pepper, clove and oily texture, kept bright and gently spiced at forty percent. Unpeated and easy going, it is a versatile everyday pot still, good neat or lightly diluted.
