Description
Powers Irish Rye is an unusual release from Midleton in Co. Cork, an Irish rye rather than the pot still or grain styles the distillery is known for. Made by Irish Distillers and released around 2023 for the European market at 43.2%, it leans on rye grain to bring a sharper, spicier profile than the classic Powers blends, a nod to the brand's spicy reputation in a new form.
Maturation across virgin, first fill and refill American oak layers fresh sawn oak spice and vanilla over the rye's natural bite. The result is bright and citric, with white and black pepper, a dry cereal grain note and a clean, crisp finish. Unpeated and easy at strength, it works neat but really comes alive in rye forward cocktails, an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan with an Irish accent.
