Powers Signature Release marked the brand's return to single pot still bottling, a no age statement whiskey made at Midleton in Co. Cork by Irish Distillers under a name rooted in John Power's Dublin distillery. Bottled at 46% for the European market, it puts the spicier, weightier Powers pot still character front and centre after decades in which the name was best known as a blend.
A mash of malted and unmalted barley, triple distilled, was matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks. The bourbon oak gives honey, vanilla and fresh orchard fruit, while the Oloroso adds dried fruit and a nutty depth. Citrus lift and a green, glasshouse freshness sit over the classic pot still frame of pepper, clove and oily texture, the higher strength carrying it all to a long, spicy finish.
