Description
Powers John's Lane Release revives the name of James Power's old Thomas Street distillery in Dublin, now made as a single pot still whiskey at Midleton in Co. Cork under Irish Distillers. Bottled around 2011 for the German market at 46%, it carries a twelve year age statement and the heavier, spicier pot still character that has always set Powers apart from its stablemates.
A mash of malted and unmalted barley, triple distilled, was matured in American oak with a portion of Iberian oak, the sherry seasoned wood lending dried fruit and dark chocolate against the bourbon cask honey and vanilla. Tobacco leaf, cooked orchard fruit and a peppery, oily pot still grip carry through a long finish, bottled at natural strength for extra depth.
