Description
Powers Gold Label Special Reserve is a twelve year old blend from Midleton in Co. Cork, the distillery that has carried the Powers name since production left John's Lane in Dublin. Owned by Irish Distillers, it pairs the pot still weight the brand is known for with softer column grain whiskey, and was bottled at 40% for the German market.
Maturation in ex-bourbon casks keeps the profile pale and cereal driven, the American oak giving vanilla and gentle spice. Expect cooked mash and malt extract up front, a faintly green, glasshouse note, and the oily, mossy texture that marks pot still in the blend. Triple distilled and unpeated, it is an easygoing style with more grip than a standard grain blend.
