Description
Piper-Heidsieck was founded in Reims in 1785, and this Cuvee Brut is the house's signature non-vintage, shaped by cellar master Emilien Boutillat. The blend leads on Pinot Meunier, supported by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, which gives a full, fruit-forward character. It follows the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and ageing on the lees, building a fine bead and a light bready depth beneath the fruit, with the dosage set at a classic dry Brut level.
The colour is golden yellow with a fine bead. The nose is fruit-driven, with pear and apple to the fore, backed by citrus, star fruit, fresh grape and a touch of aniseed. The palate is full and fruity, with juicy, fleshy pear and grape over a light biscuit edge, closing harmonious and balanced. Serve at 5 to 7 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and suits shellfish, white fish and fruity puddings.
