Description
Piper-Heidsieck was founded in Reims in 1785, and this is its signature Cuvee Brut, here in the Perfume Edition gift box. The blend leads on Pinot Meunier, supported by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, for a full, fruit-forward style. It follows the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and ageing on the lees, which builds a fine bead and a light bready depth, the dosage set at a classic dry Brut level.
The colour is golden yellow with a fine bead. The nose is fruit-driven, with pear and apple to the fore, backed by citrus, fresh grape and a touch of aniseed. The palate is full and fruity, with juicy pear and grape over a light biscuit edge, closing harmonious and balanced. Serve at 5 to 7 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and suits shellfish, white fish and light fruity puddings, with the presentation box making it an easy gift.
