Description
Piper-Heidsieck was founded in Reims in 1785, and this is its signature Cuvee Brut, here presented in a gift box with two glasses. The blend leads on Pinot Meunier, supported by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, for a full, fruit-forward character. It follows the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and ageing on the lees, which builds a fine bead and a light bready depth beneath the fruit, the dosage set at a classic dry Brut level.
The colour is golden yellow with a fine bead. The nose is fruit-driven, with pear and apple to the fore over citrus, fresh grape and a touch of aniseed. The palate is full and fruity, with juicy pear and grape carried on a light biscuit edge, closing harmonious and balanced. Serve at 5 to 7 degrees in the glasses supplied. It works as an aperitif and suits shellfish, white fish and light fruity puddings, and the boxed set makes an easy gift.
