New Yarmouth Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 49 2020

This New Yarmouth was selected by Spirit of Rum for the Rumclub Private Selection line, a single cask bottled at four years old and full cask strength. New Yarmouth in Clarendon has become an independent-bottler favourite for its robust, high-ester pot still spirit, and this Edition 49 leans hard into that emerging reputation: loud fruit and funk packed into a young, uncompromising package.

Distilled on the pot still from molasses and matured in virgin oak rather than the usual ex-bourbon barrel, the fresh wood throws spice and tannin against the ester load instead of sweet vanilla. The result is big tropical fruit and banana on the nose, tipping into glue, with marzipan, young wood and a spicy edge across the palate and a long, pineapple-and-ester finish. Unsweetened and bottled at 62.6%, it rewards a few drops of water and works equally well neat or as the backbone of a serious Mai Tai.
