Description
Moët & Chandon makes this Nectar Impérial Rosé at Épernay as a richer, sweeter reading of rosé Champagne. The blend runs 45 to 55 per cent Pinot Noir, part vinified as red wine, with 35 to 45 per cent Pinot Meunier and a smaller share of Chardonnay for freshness. It is made by the traditional method, with around 18 months of maturation on the lees before disgorgement, then a further rest. A dosage near 45 grams per litre places it in the Demi-Sec category, giving a full, sweet style set against the fresh acidity of the red fruit.
The colour is a deep rosé with coppery highlights and a fine, lively bead. The nose is generous, showing wild strawberry, red and black currant and ripe yellow peach, with a jammy edge. The palate carries red berries with a hint of caramel, a rich, creamy texture and a fresh acidic edge, closing long. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits fruity desserts, strawberry tarts and fine pastries, and matches duck breast or a sweet-and-spicy dish.
