Description
Martini & Rossi has stood for Italian sparkling wine for over 160 years, and this Asti DOCG comes from the gentle hills around Asti in Piedmont, one of the oldest homes of the Moscato Bianco grape. The wine is made by the tank method, with fermentation stopped early to keep both the natural sweetness of the grape and a low alcohol of 7.5%. That single fermentation captures the grapey, floral aromatics of Moscato and leaves a fine, gentle bead.
The colour is a light straw yellow with golden reflections and a fine, long bead. The nose is fresh and floral, with peach, pear and pineapple lifted by honeysuckle and a savoury hint of sage. The palate is soft, fruity and sweet, balanced by a lively freshness that keeps it light, and the finish is round and floral. Serve it well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. As a sweet style it belongs with dessert, suiting fresh-fruit tarts, strawberry tiramisu and citrus panna cotta, and it also works with a wedge of blue cheese.
